Melbourne has confirmed that midfielder Jack Viney will miss the next month of football with a fractured knuckle-bone, effectively ruling out his recent suspension of one week for striking Brad Ebert.

Viney was cited by the Match Review Panel for connecting with a short jab to Ebert's chin in Saturday's big loss to the Power.

Viney was in red hot form prior to his suspension and considered a Brownlow Medal chance if his form continued.

The fiery young midfielder will miss games against Hawthorn, Collingwood & Sydney will the bye following these three games.
