With no pre-season to speak of, Col Garland's return has been a long time coming. Some 7 rounds have been and gone before last year's B&F runner up will find his place in the backline against the Doggies. Regardless of the result, getting Col through in good shape will be a minor victory for the Demons.

What Garland's return offers Roos is greater flexibility in Jeremy Howe's role. Since moving back, Howe has found form, after being anonymous up forward in the opening games without a tall presence to play off. With Chris Dawes leading the line, Howe should offer far more as an attacking threat, particularly useful with question marks over James Frawley's toe injury.

The deeply impressive Christian Salem could make the deserved step from sub to interchange, clearly it's only a matter of time before he becomes a fixture in Roos' best team.

Apparently, some bloke called Jack Viney is also available to play.

Prediction: Jack Viney by 6
